Plovdiv is the second largest city in Bulgaria and it is very old and ancient town indeed, even older than Bulgaria itself. Plovdiv has it all in one-old traditions, rich culture about the Tracians (who are the oldest population in the Balkan Penisula), lots of churches, museums, the best wine and honey offered, the cetemporarly of Troy is there as well and many, many others. Long time ago in the city were found lots of gold, silverware and jewelries which shows that the Tracians used to be very brave and freedom loving people.
Plovdiv used to have many different names as its existance was 6000 to 8000 years and it has been by the name of Plovdiv ever since the 15th century. The city is situated on the two banks of the famous Bulgarian river Maritsa. It is also situated in the cantral part of South Bulgarian and it is divided into 16 municipalities. The population of Plovdiv is 500 000 inhabitans which is pretty much for a country like Bulgaria. Plovdiv is full of resources and there are lots of important international routes passing through the city.
Plovdiv would impress you with its houses, remarkable for their beautiful layout, nice appearance as well as its design inside and out. Some of the houses are so old and have a lot of history behind them so they have been turned into museums. One of the biggest attractions in Plovdiv is the old part of the city called 'The Old Town' which features houses from the National Revival period (18-19th century) and it is an omposing opain-air museum situated on the three hills of the ancient Trimontium.
